Heisey Elegant Etched Glass Sandwich Serving Tray 507 Orchid Dolphin Handle 1940

Here we have a Heisey Tidbit Sandwich tray in the etched Orchid pattern with dolphin handle.

This is Heisey's best selling etching, 507 Orchid. Introduced in 1940, it became the most extensive pattern that Heisey produced. It appears on almost 50 different patterns with over 225 different pieces. This pattern was the second most popular glassware pattern with brides in the 1940s, only outsold by Cambridge's ubiquitous Rosepoint pattern. The pattern remained in production until the factory closed and a few pieces continued in production by Imperial Glass after Imperial acquired the Heisey moulds and etching plates in 1958.

The etching is an elegant presentation of orchid flowers usually alternating with bows within a framework of vines and small flowers. The design is attributed to Ned Newman.
