Antonin Kratochvil: Incognito Photo Collection

This book is the second photobook by photographer Antonin Kratochvil. Here, he turns his camera from the humanitarian tragedies and destruction he has depicted in Eastern Europe to another aspect of modernity: the broad spectrum of the entertainment industry.

Kratochvil's portraits of celebrities and figures of the moment are distinct from the sweetly processed images that pervade today's fashion and film magazines. His work emphasizes the physical and psychological tension exuded by the creative men and women who sit before his camera, aiming not to please the viewer but to reveal something beneath the surface.

Many of the photographs in this book were taken on assignment for publications such as Detour, W, GQ, and Premiere, but this is the first time Kratochvil's celebrity portraits have been compiled into a single volume. "Incognito" is that first collection, fully showcasing his expressionistic, raw, and sometimes dark style, which has become a unique signature in the world of editorial and portrait photography.
